103 seats open on the panel.
Five firms in each core trade, two in every specialist one, and no more, so every firm on the panel gets enough work to matter. These are the seats as they stand: how many are filled, how many are open, and how many firms are waiting. Names stay private.

Core trades
Five firms a trade. Here is what is left.
The trades nearly every job needs. Each takes five firms, so the work spread across them is enough to be worth having. An open seat goes to vetting straight away; a full one puts you on the waiting list for the next seat.

Specialist trades
Two seats for every specialist.
The work that is one part of a job: the welder, the steel fixer, the thatcher, the firm that does nothing but sprinklers. Every specialist trade takes 2 firms, so the one we call is always one we know.

How a seat is filled
Full is not closed.
A full trade still takes applications. You are vetted the same way, and you wait with your paperwork already done, so when a seat opens it goes to a firm that can start on Monday.
- 01
Apply for your trade
Five short steps on the form. Pick the trade you want a seat in; a full trade goes straight onto its waiting list.
- 02
Vetting
Registration, tax, insurance, COIDA and references checked against the registers, and a look at work you have finished.
- 03
A seat, or the list
Pass vetting with a seat open and you are on the panel. With the trade full you keep your place on the list, in the order you passed.
- 04
Seats come back
Seats are held on delivery. A firm that slips on time, quality or paperwork gives its seat to the next one waiting.
Your trade not listed? Apply anyway and tell us what you do. New trades open when the work is there for them.
