The certificate
Electrical certificate of compliance (COC)
Under the Electrical Installation Regulations, 2009, new electrical work must be certified by a registered person. When an electrician adds to or alters the installation, you get a COC for that work.
What moves the price
A written quote, before anything starts.
The call-out starts from R450. Every house is different, so the work itself is quoted after seeing the problem, in writing, and nothing beyond making it safe starts until you approve. These are the things that decide that number.

- New points: how far they are from the board and what the cable runs through

- Why does my earth leakage (trip switch) keep tripping?
- Usually an appliance with a fault, water in a plug or light outside, or damaged wiring. It is doing its job: it trips to stop a shock. Unplug everything and reset it; if it stays on, plug things back one at a time. If it still trips, it is in the wiring and needs an electrician.
- Can you fit plugs and circuits for an inverter?
- Yes. See the solar and backup power page, or ask when you book.
- Do I get a COC for new work?
- Yes. Any new work or alteration to the installation is certified.
