Leak detection and burst pipe repairs

A water bill that jumped, a damp patch that keeps growing, a meter that turns when every tap is off. We find the leak at its source instead of patching where it shows.

Call-out from R450· written quote before any work starts

01

When to call

Sound familiar?

  • The water bill jumped and nothing changed at home
  • The meter keeps turning with every tap closed
  • Damp or bubbling paint low on a wall
  • A wet patch on the lawn or paving that never dries
  • A toilet that keeps running or refilling
  • Low water pressure all of a sudden
Before anyone arrives
  1. 01Close the main stopcock at the meter if water is escaping
  2. 02Switch off power to any wet room or wall socket
  3. 03Photograph the damage and the meter reading

How the job runs

What we do, in order.

  1. 01

    Confirm there is a leak

A meter test with everything closed tells us whether water is escaping and roughly how fast.

  2. 02

    Find it

Pressure testing section by section, and listening and moisture equipment, so walls and floors are opened in one place, not five.

  3. 03

    Repair it

The damaged section replaced with the right pipe and fittings, and pressure-tested before it is closed up.

  4. 04

    Put it back

Plaster, paint, tiling or paving made good, as one job rather than a second contractor.

What moves the price

A written quote, before anything starts.

The call-out starts from R450. Every house is different, so the work itself is quoted after seeing the problem, in writing, and nothing beyond making it safe starts until you approve. These are the things that decide that number.

  • How long the leak takes to find: a visible pipe or one under a slab
  • What has to be opened up to reach it: a wall, a tiled floor or paving
  • The pipe material, and whether one repair is enough or a run is failing
  • Making good afterwards: plaster, paint, tiles or paving

Questions

What people ask us.

Is a leak on the street side my problem?
Up to and including the water meter is usually the municipality's to repair; from the meter into your property is yours. If the leak is on their side we tell you, and you report it to the municipality instead of paying us for it.
Can I get a high water bill reduced?
Ask your municipality whether it will consider an adjustment for a hidden leak. Whatever it decides, it will want proof: the plumber's invoice and a report showing where the leak was and when it was fixed. We give you both.
Do you have to break the wall?
Sometimes, but the point of finding the leak first is that we open one small spot instead of chasing it across the room.
