What the panel does

Gas lines, cylinder installations, regulators and the certified connection to hobs, geysers, heaters and plant. Every installation on the panel is done by a SAQCC Gas registered installer and closes with a certificate of conformity, because without one the installation is uninsurable and the property is untransferable.

The panel's gas contractor is also licensed to sell and transport petrol and diesel, which puts bulk fuel supply for generators and plant inside the same relationship as the installation.

Existing installations are inspected against the current standard before any extension is quoted. A certificate issued for the old installation does not carry the new one.

The quote separates the installation from the appliance so a client can see what the certificate covers, and it states the cylinder or bulk configuration and the safety distances the standard requires. Where an existing installation cannot be certified as it stands, the regularisation is priced as its own line.

Who commissions it

Bodies corporate and estates with gas geysers or communal supply, restaurants and commercial kitchens, and sites running generators that need bulk fuel delivered.

Registers that apply to gas

What to ask any contractor for before you award, on the panel or off it. Every one of these is checked before a panel contractor quotes.

SAQCC Gas registration

The South African Qualification and Certification Committee for Gas registers the individual installer; only a registered installer may issue the certificate of conformity.

Pressure Equipment Regulations

Under the OHS Act; the regulations that make the certificate of conformity compulsory.

SANS 10087-1
